Job Description

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Engineering Lead to drive the design and development of large-scale, reusable capital electro-mechanical medical devices. This role will lead technical execution from early concept through design freeze, partnering closely with cross-functional teams across R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and external suppliers.
The ideal candidate is a strong mechanical engineer with experience in electro-mechanical systems, software-integrated hardware, and new product development within regulated industries. This role offers the opportunity to act as the technical product lead for a major capital platform while collaborating with distributed teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design and development of reusable capital electro-mechanical medical devices from concept through design freeze
• Serve as technical lead for a major capital product, owning design decisions and execution
• Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Procurement, and external partners
• Develop and maintain design documentation including user needs, design inputs/outputs, test plans, risk analyses, and technical files
• Support bench-level and clinical environment testing, evaluation, and troubleshooting
• Partner with vendors and contract manufacturers to develop and test prototypes
• Lead cross-functional project teams, including internal engineers, designers, technicians, and external contractors
• Provide technical mentorship and direction to junior engineers, designers, and technicians
Support domestic and limited international travel for development activities and collaboration

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
• 5+ years of engineering experience designing electro-mechanical products or capital equipment
• Experience working with software-integrated mechanical systems
• Strong understanding of design controls and documentation within regulated environments
• Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously and navigate ambiguity
Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Travel
Periodic travel (approximately 6–8 times per year), including occasional collaboration with a secondary engineering site

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Engineering
• Experience in medical devices, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or other regulated industries
• Familiarity with IEC 60601, tolerance analysis/stack-ups, and mechanical design software
Experience supporting both upstream (new product development) and downstream product support
