Job Description

You’ll be working on a critical enterprise data platform that powers access to centralized data warehouse systems through high scale APIs. This platform is a core part of the organization’s data ecosystem, serving ~12 million API requests per day and enabling teams across the business to reliably discover, manage, and consume data.
At this scale, engineering decisions matter. The team is focused on:
• Designing systems that scale efficiently under high request volumes
• Running Kubernetes in real-world, production environments
• Being thoughtful about cloud cost and resource utilization
• Building smart, efficient architectures (not “scale at all costs”)
The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Backend / Platform Engineer to help scale and automate an enterprise GitOps-driven data management platform. This platform governs thousands of tables in a centralized data warehouse and enables reliable, governed deployments through automation.
In this role, you’ll sit at the intersection of application code, configuration, and infrastructure-as-code, helping build the automation layer that makes large-scale, governed data platforms possible.
What You’ll Do
• Build and evolve backend services that automate the full lifecycle of enterprise data products and metadata
• Design and maintain a GitOps-based deployment engine, using CI/CD pipelines and Terraform to manage data assets at scale
• Implement robust change management and access control mechanisms to support governance across thousands of distributed entities
• Create self-service APIs and automation that reduce friction for data producers and platform users
• Support the reliability, performance, and scalability of CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native infrastructure
• Partner closely with platform, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver secure and efficient systems
Why This Role Is Interesting
• You’ll be working on a mission critical platform that directly supports enterprise-wide data access
• The problems are real and complex: scale, governance, automation, and cost awareness
• You’ll have ownership and influence over how large-scale data platforms are built and operated
• The role blends deep technical work with platform thinking and long-term system design

Required Skills & Experience

5+ years of experience in backend or platform engineering
• Strong programming experience with Python (or a comparable backend language)
• Deep hands-on expertise with Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code
• Proven experience building and scaling GitOps-based CI/CD workflows
• Solid understanding of cloud platforms and distributed data systems
• Strong system design fundamentals and experience building APIs at scale
• Comfort working in high-throughput, production environments where reliability and cost efficiency matter

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience with data or metadata standards (e.g., Open Data Contracts)
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized workloads
• Exposure to building internal developer platforms or self-service infrastructure

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
