Job Description

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
OT Infrastructure Deployment: Lead the end-to-end installation, configuration, and commissioning of Linux-based edge devices, servers, and virtualized environments (e.g., Ubuntu, VMware, Proxmox) at operational sites.
Deployment Automation: Architect, develop, and optimize automation frameworks and configuration management solutions (Ansible, Bash, Python) to streamline deployments and improve reliability.
Database & Systems Management: Design, deploy, and manage time-series and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MariaDB) optimized for high-frequency operational data collection.
Hardware Lifecycle: Oversee hardware health, lifecycle planning, and capacity management (CPU, RAM, Disk) for critical control systems.
Hardware Commissioning: Serve as a subject matter expert working with ruggedized edge hardware and industrial networking equipment, ensuring reliable communication using OT protocols (e.g., Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, OPC UA, MQTT).
Site Reliability & Support: Act as a primary escalation point for complex deployment and system issues, ensuring all systems meet strict availability, reliability, and safety standards prior to operational handoff.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical leadership and best practices for OT system deployments.
Stay current on emerging tools, technologies, and industry best practices through continuous learning and professional development.

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Systems Deployment Engineer to join our Operational Technology (OT) Deployment team. In this role, you will serve as a key technical leader bridging digital infrastructure and physical operations. You will drive the design, deployment, and secure configuration of edge computing systems, servers, and networks that power industrial control environments. This role requires deep expertise in Linux system administration, a strong automation mindset, and a proven ability to operate in mission-critical environments where uptime, reliability, and safety are paramount.

Required Skills & Experience

Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, IT/OT Integration, or a similar role focused on deploying infrastructure in industrial, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure environments.
Operating Systems: Expert-level proficiency in Linux system administration, including deploying, securing, and hardening enterprise Linux distributions at scale.
Automation Skills: Deep experience designing, building, and maintaining automation frameworks and playbooks (Ansible) and advanced scripting (Bash, Ruby, Python) for zero-touch provisioning.
Networking & Security: Advanced understanding of industrial networking concepts, firewalls, VLANs, and OT cybersecurity standards, with experience implementing secure architectures.
OT Protocols: Strong expertise in industrial communication protocols and securely integrating OT data flows into modern IT applications.
Mindset: Demonstrates a strong “safety-first” and “uptime-critical” mindset, with a deep understanding of the operational impact of changes in live OT production environments.
Extensive experience working within Agile development methodologies and tracking work in JIRA.
Strong expertise in version control best practices, including Git.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve highly complex system integration and deployment issues.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives independently while collaborating across cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Nice to Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering from an accredited university preferred.
Experience in the energy, renewable energy, or utility sectors.
Familiarity with containerized application deployment and orchestration at the edge (Docker, Ansible).
Experience managing, optimizing, and querying operational historians or industrial databases.
