Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a Power BI Developer to develop, optimize, and maintain our customer-facing dashboards, datasets, and reporting experiences. This role is responsible for turning curated data models into interactive, performance-tuned Power BI products that allow customers to explore real-time insights, schedule reports, and manage distribution lists through secure, templated dashboards. In that capacity, you will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, and customers to gather requirements, define KPIs, and translate operational needs into meaningful visualizations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop, enhance, and maintain Power BI dashboards, datasets, and paginated reports used across customer portals.
• Create templated dashboards and reusable components that can be customized per customer or yard operation.
• Design intuitive, visually consistent, and responsive layouts that align with our brand and UX guidelines.
• Manage Power BI dataset refresh schedules, distribution lists, and access control via Power Automate and Fabric governance tools.
• Build semantic models that align with the Medallion architecture and ensure consistent KPIs and metrics across reports.
• Use strong SQL skills to optimize queries and ensure efficient refresh and load times.
• Ensure compliance with data governance and information security standards, including Row-Level Security (RLS), sensitivity labels, and workspace permissions across Fabric and Power BI environments.
• Provide feedback on upstream data models and transformation logic to improve report performance and maintainability.

Pay $50-60/hr

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics / Data Science, or a related field preferred.
• 4+ years of experience developing Power BI dashboards, datasets, and data models.
Strong proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and T-SQL.
• Experience connecting Power BI to Microsoft Fabric Warehouse / Lakehouse or equivalent cloud data platforms.
• Experience leveraging Power Automate and Power BI Service APIs to schedule report deliveries, exports, and alert notifications.
• Deep understanding of Power BI performance optimization (aggregations, incremental refresh, query folding, composite models).
• Experience implementing Row-Level Security, workspace governance, and distribution pipelines.
• Strong sense of data storytelling, visual design, and user experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric data pipelines, Lakehouse-to-Warehouse flows, or similar data orchestration concepts.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with Power BI Embedded or API-based embedding in web applications is a plus.
