Job Description

Day-to-Day:
The Health Information Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day processing, maintenance, and protection of patient health information. This role supports the Health Information Management (HIM) department by ensuring medical records are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant with HIPAA regulations while delivering high-volume patient support and administrative services.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain strict HIPAA compliance, processing Release of Information (ROI) requests, audits, amendments, and quality assurance reviews
• Support high-volume patient interactions, assisting a team managing 80–100 patient calls per day, along with general HIM reception and transcription
Process birth certificates for 20–30 newborns per day and assist with emergency assistance program processing, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance

Required Skills & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required
• Prior experience in Health Information management, medical records or healthcare administration, including Release of Information (ROI) or document imaging with a strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment with strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Proficiency in EMR systems and document imaging platforms
