Job Description

Insight Global is looking to hire a full-time Principal AI Research Scientist for one of our large energy clients. Were looking for a visionary and accomplished Research Scientist to lead groundbreaking research in foundation models tailored for power grid and substation applications. As a founding member of our AI lab, youll shape the research direction, drive innovation in model architectures and training methodologies, and help build a world-class research team. This role is hands-on and deeply technical, requiring a strong foundation in AI research and a passion for solving complex, real-world challenges. Your work will contribute directly to transforming the energy sector, accelerating renewable integration, and addressing climate change through advanced AI solutions.
Job Responsibilities
Lead original research initiatives focused on foundation models for power grid data and applications, developing novel deep learning architectures, algorithms, and training techniques.
Explore and advance the state-of-the-art in AI by adapting and integrating methods from public research into domain-specific solutions.
Collaborate with AI engineers and subject matter experts to translate research innovations into scalable, deployable systems for real-world grid environments.
Build and mentor a high-performing research team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and rapid prototyping to validate ideas quickly.
Communicate research outcomes effectively through technical publications, blogs, and presentations, and represent the lab at conferences and industry events.
Independently drive research projects with initiative and a results-driven mindset, solving complex problems and delivering impactful solutions.

Required Skills & Experience

Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of research experience in Deep Learning, Machine Learning, or related fields, with a focus on developing and scaling advanced AI models. Candidates with more or less experience may be considered for different levels.
Hands-on experience building large foundation models (>100 GPU's), with expertise in at least one of the following areas: AI for Simulation/Physics, Neural Operators, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), or Transformers.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement novel deep learning architectures and algorithms.
Experience working with large datasets and compute clusters to scale complex models.
Strong independent research skills, rapid prototyping capabilities, and excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Publications in top-tier AI conferences or journals.
Contributions to open-source machine learning projects.
Prior experience working in a leading AI research lab.
Domain expertise in applying AI/ML to power systems, electrical grids, or related energy sectors.
