Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a Microsoft 365 Engineer to support the administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of enterprise M365 services. This individual will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing key platforms including Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Purview while ensuring secure, reliable, and compliant operations across a large enterprise environment.
This role will own assigned Microsoft 365 service areas end-to-end, monitor tenant health and service metrics, implement governance controls, and proactively identify opportunities to improve performance, availability, compliance, and user experience. The engineer will also troubleshoot complex M365 issues, manage incidents and service requests through ServiceNow, support Entra ID and Conditional Access configurations, and provide clear documentation and communication throughout the resolution process.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, or High School Diploma/GED and 8+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience, including Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Purview.
• Experience managing data governance controls such as DLP, retention policies, and sensitivity labels.
• Experience troubleshooting complex M365 issues, identifying root cause, and implementing long-term solutions.
• Experience supporting Entra ID and Conditional Access configurations.
• Experience with PowerShell, Power Automate, and/or Microsoft Graph API for automation, reporting, and configuration management.
• Experience managing incidents and requests in ServiceNow or another ITSM platform.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to lead or support Microsoft 365 projects such as migrations, policy implementations, and service enhancements.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience working in higher education or a large, decentralized enterprise environment.
• Knowledge of FERPA, state public records laws, or similar regulatory/compliance frameworks.
• Experience evaluating and deploying new Microsoft 365 features, including Copilot for M365.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, runbooks, procedures, and configuration records.
• Experience collaborating with Security, Infrastructure, Enterprise Voice, Identity Management, and other IT partner teams.
