Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking an experienced Senior Solar Engineering Manager to lead and oversee the engineering function for utility-scale and/or commercial solar energy projects. This role is responsible for managing engineering teams, driving technical excellence, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with industry standards. Strong solar energy experience is required.

Responsibilities


Lead, mentor, and manage a team of solar engineers across multiple projects
Oversee the engineering design of solar PV systems, including layout, electrical, structural, and civil components
Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
Collaborate with project management, construction, procurement, and business development teams
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and industry standards
Provide technical guidance during project development, permitting, construction, and commissioning phases
Identify and implement engineering best practices, process improvements, and cost efficiencies
Support site visits and field troubleshooting as needed
Travel up to 25% to project sites, meetings, and stakeholder engagements

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field required; Master’s preferred)
8+ years of solar energy engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management role
Strong knowledge of solar PV system design, interconnection, and grid requirements
Proven experience managing engineering teams and large-scale solar projects
Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, UL, and relevant permitting and regulatory requirements
Proficiency with solar design and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar)
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience with utility-scale solar projects
Experience working cross-functionally with EPC or renewable energy organizations

Compensation:

$125,000 to $150,000.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
