Job Description

* Responsible for managing the general accounting function;

* Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure;

* Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements including analyzing variances and meeting deadlines in accordance with the month-end closing calendar;

* Oversee completion of month-end closing procedures to include general ledger reconciliations, journal entries and research and determine the most effective means of handling accounting transactions;

* Evaluate and make appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization;

* Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy;

* Supervise accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, cash disbursements and general ledger functions and staff;

* Create and maintain accounts within the accounting software for general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable;

* Work with direct reports to establish goals and objectives each year and monitor progress to enhance professional development of staff;

* Collaborate with Strategic Planning and Analysis to communicate general ledger activity in relation to budgets;

* Support the Director of Accounting with special projects and workflow process improvements;

* Ensure clean annual financial audits and assist Controller and Director of Accounting with tax return (Form 990) preparation;

* Research, develop and maintain accounting policies in accordance with GAAP.

Required Skills & Experience

* CPA designation preferred

* Nonprofit Accounting & Banking experience a plus

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience required

* 7 -- 10 year experience (including at least 2 years Public Accounting experience)
