Job Description

Position: Systems Operations Engineer II
Openings: 1
Salary: $106,000 – $118,000k
Location: 2041 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, DC 20060
Schedule:
• Core hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Hybrid – 2 days onsite / 3 days remote
• On call as hospital operates 24/7

Interview Process:
• Round 1: Virtual technical interview with 3 team members -1 hour
• Final Round: Virtual interview with Sr. Director of Enterprise Dev Ops - 1 hour
• Interview Blocks: Monday-Friday 11am-2pm  

Key Pain Points at Howard University Hospital
• Legacy infrastructure with many outdated systems
• Manual processes everywhere → goal is automation via scripting
• Patch management is a major issue
○ No formal patching tool in place today
• Monitoring is immature and still being learned
• Bad habits baked into systems over time

Overview: Insight Global is seeking a Systems Operations Engineer II to support a complex, mission‑critical healthcare IT environment.

Major Responsibilities:
• Support, maintain troubleshoot infrastructure (Windows and Linux servers, virtualization platforms, and enterprise storage systems) on a daily basis
○ Ensure system uptime, performance, and reliability in a high‑availability healthcare environment.
○ Respond to infrastructure incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative solutions.
• Manage longer term strategic roadmap including creating a Patch Management plan / Business Continuity/ Disaster Recovery / Runbook plan and documentation plan (systems, processes, and operational runbooks)

Other responsibilities
• Develop scripts and automation for provisioning, configuration, and patch management.
• Improve and standardize identity and access management using Active Directory, Azure AD, SSO, and MFA.
• Support hybrid cloud initiatives and infrastructure modernization efforts (Azure/AWS).

Future responsibilities
• Assist with data center migrations, new equipment deployments, and legacy system modernization.
• Partner with security teams to support HIPAA compliance and infrastructure security standards.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with network, security, and application teams.
• Serve as a senior technical resource and mentor to junior team members.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Haves:
• Background working in a 24/7 enterprise environment that requires high availability
• 3-7+ years in systems administration / infrastructure engineering
• Ability to manage and troubleshoot day to day system/infrastructure escalations
• Background in creating operational and strategic long term plans including :
-Patch management plan
-Business continuity plan
-Documentation systems for processes, and operational runbooks.

Technical Skills:
• Windows & Linux server environments
• Virtualization: VMware, Hyper‑V
• Storage: SAN / NAS
• Cloud: Azure, AWS
• PowerShell scripting
• Active Directory / Azure AD
• SSO, MFA, identity management
