Job Description

Insight Global is seeking an Electrical Designer or Electrical Design Engineer to join a power generation company located in Glastonbury, CT. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of electrical design experience. The position is open to fully remote for a senior candidate, and will be hybrid for a junior candidate. The Electrical Designer should have advanced expertise in AutoCAD, wiring design, and physical layout for industrial and utility applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing panels, substation systems, and power generation facilities. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality electrical designs that meet industry standards and project requirements.



Responsibilities also include:



- Develop and modify detailed electrical designs, including schematics, wiring diagrams,

and physical layouts, using AutoCAD and other relevant tools.

- Design control panels, including layout, wiring, and bill of materials preparation, adhering

to client specifications and standards.

- Create electrical designs for substations, power distribution systems, and generating

stations, ensuring compliance with NEC, IEC, and utility regulations.

- Perform equipment layout and cable routing, ensuring efficiency and adherence to site specific constraints.

- Integrate vendor-supplied drawings and specifications into system designs.

- Participate in field assessments and site surveys to gather data and verify existing

installations.

- Assist in preparing project documentation, such as single-line diagrams, as-built

drawings, and construction packages.

- Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards, such as IEEE, NFPA 70 (NEC), and

ANSI.

- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases, including

resolving design-related issues.

Required Skills & Experience

- Associate degree or certification in Electrical Design, Engineering Technology, or related field. A bachelor's degree is a plus

- Proven expertise in designing control panels, motor control centers (MCCs), and switchgear

- Proficiency in creating physical layouts and wiring designs for high-voltage and low voltage systems.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field

- Advanced skills in AutoCAD Electrical; experience with additional CAD tools like Revit or SolidWorks is a plus.

- Strong understanding of industrial power systems, including grounding, conduit routing, and cable tray design.

- Familiarity with relay and protection systems, SCADA integration, and PLC wiring is advantageous.

- Knowledge of electrical standards and codes, including NEC, IEEE, and utility-specific guidelines
