Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a mid-level Firmware QA Engineer to lead automated testing and HIL framework development for embedded systems. This individual will play a key role in validating firmware performance and reliability, working cross-functionally with hardware and firmware teams to design, execute, and scale test automation within a CI/CD environment.
Design and develop automated test cases using Python and Robot Framework
Create and execute detailed test plans aligned to product specifications and requirements traceability (Xray for Jira)
Build and maintain HIL automation frameworks to test firmware on physical hardware systems
Integrate automated test suites into Bitbucket CI/CD pipelines to improve testing efficiency and coverage
Partner with firmware engineers to debug system behavior and perform root cause analysis
Log, track, and manage defects in Jira throughout the development lifecycle
Utilize diagnostic tools (logic analyzers, USB analyzers) for deep system-level troubleshooting
Develop and maintain HIL lab environments, including hardware setup and system validation workflows
Operate and manage lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies) for test execution
Collaborate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and provide clear documentation on test procedures and results

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering discipline
2–5 years of experience in firmware QA, embedded systems testing, or similar role
Strong proficiency in Python or similar scripting language for test automation
Hands-on experience with Robot Framework or similar tools (PyTest, Cypress, etc.)
Solid understanding of embedded systems architecture and firmware development principles
Hands-on experience with electronic lab equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer)
Experience with Git version control and Bitbucket workflows (PRs, code reviews)
Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate into test plans and validation strategies
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across both hardware and software
Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally within engineering teams

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience with communication protocols (CAN, USB, Ethernet, UART, SPI)
Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Xray)
Experience building or scaling HIL test environments
Exposure to safety or regulatory standards for embedded systems
