Role Overview
Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Characterization Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for the characterization, testing, and metrology of advanced photonic integrated circuits, supporting our next-generation hardware development.
Responsibilities:
Perform detailed characterization and testing of photonic integrated circuits using advanced metrology techniques.
Develop and execute test plans, analyze data, and report findings to cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with design, fabrication, and research teams to optimize PIC performance and reliability.
Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring best practices in measurement accuracy.
Document procedures, results, and recommendations for process improvements.
Understanding of optical metrology equipment, fixturing, precision alignment

Required Skills & Experience
Master’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
At least 5 years of hands-on experience in photonic integrated circuits and metrology.
Proficiency with optical measurement tools and data analysis software.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
General familiarity with standard optical and optomechanical components (lenses, mirrors, mounts, stages, cameras, etc.) as well as the major suppliers (Thorlabs, Edmund Optics, Newport, McMaster, Digikey, etc.)
Familiarity with mechanical and optical metrology and test equipment (Instron, Interferometer, microscopes, etc).
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience with PIC design and fabrication processes.
Familiarity with industry-standard metrology equipment and techniques.
Prior experience in a research or development environment.
Experience with fiber optics alignment, photonic chip handling, and sensitive alignment of optical components.
Experience with instrument automation (e.g., power meters, laser drivers, and control synchronization for data collection).
Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and photonic device packaging.
Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and test automation.
