Job Description

Insight Global is looking for a Component Engineer to support our Fortune 50 Tech customer. As a CE, in a HW Development Role, you will support all phases of the hardware development process including support of a component selection strategy that ensures part availability throughout the product development process; detect and prevent component issues that would impact successful product launch. You will juggle priorities without losing sight of the customer, the project schedule and planned launch milestones. Forging collaboration between the engineering, operations, and global commodity management groups to ensure that the component choices fit the goals and objectives of the design through production, sustaining, and obsolescence stages. The Component Engineer will assist in maintaining the AVL by creating Engineering change orders, assigning part numbers, and maintaining part descriptions.

Key job responsibilities
Review all requests for new components and assure that the parts can satisfy the existing design requirements.
• Assign inventory part numbers and construct standardized descriptions for all new parts.
• Establish and maintain specifications for custom and off-the-shelf components.
• Generate specifications for new custom parts.
• Assist design engineers in the selection of parts that best fit their requirements.
• Read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and component data sheets.
• Interface with teams in the maintenance of Libraries and Databases.

Required Skills & Experience

-Strong knowledge of electronic components (SoCs, chipsets, resistors, capacitors, etc.)
-Hands-on experience using lab/test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, LCR meters, etc.)
-Experience supporting hardware design / component engineering (selection, specs, validation)
-Experience with failure analysis / root cause / testing workflows
-Knowledge of ROHS/WEEE compliance + working with contract manufacturers
-3+ years of relevant experience in a similar role
-Degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering (or related)
