Insight Global is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit to hire an experienced Benefits & Leaves Manager. This role oversees organization-wide benefits, leave of absence programs, accommodations, and workers’ compensation for a large, California-based workforce.
We are seeking a skilled HR leader with strong expertise in California employment laws, self-insured health plans, and complex leave administration. The ideal candidate is committed to delivering an excellent employee experience and supporting staff through key life events.
In this role, you will manage all benefit and leave programs—including self-insured medical plans, 403(b), FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PWFA, disability, accommodations, and workers’ compensation—while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will also lead a small HR team, oversee vendor relationships, and continuously evaluate programs for effectiveness and compliance.
This position is well-suited for a hands-on HR professional with experience supporting a large, diverse, multi-site organization. Responsibilities include:
Benefits Administration
• Lead administration of medical, dental, vision, life, wellness, COBRA, and 403(b) programs
• Manage self-insured and group health plans, including vendors, claims funding, renewals, and performance
• Oversee annual open enrollment and employee communications
• Ensure compliance with ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, and related regulations
• Analyze utilization and cost data to recommend improvements
Leaves, Accommodations & Workers’ Compensation
• Oversee administration of FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PWFA, disability, workers’ compensation, and related leaves
• Lead the ADA/FEHA interactive process
• Coordinate return-to-work processes and benefit transitions
• Supervise and mentor team members handling leave/accommodation cases
Compliance, Reporting & Strategy
• Stay current on federal, state, and local employment law changes
• Lead audits, reporting, and documentation
• Identify trends and recommend strategic improvements
Collaboration & Leadership
• Serve as primary liaison with brokers, carriers, and TPAs
• Partner with HR and communications teams to provide clear guidance
• Coach and develop HR staff

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (certifications strongly preferred)
• 3+ years of benefits and leave administration experience
• 2+ years of supervisory experience
• Experience with self-insured health plans preferred
• Advanced knowledge of CFRA, FMLA, PWFA, FEHA/ADA, ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and related laws
• Experience supporting a multi-site workforce of 500+ employees; nonprofit/human services experience a plus
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft applications
