Job Description

A lead defense contractor is looking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager sitting in San Diego, CA. He/she will be supporting a counter unmanned aerial system providing real-time protection for life, property, and sensitive infrastructure from unwanted drones using a non-destructive AI based approach. These systems are deployed across the globe, rapidly expanding the footprint of a technologically innovative solution that addresses all aspects of the user experience. They are a self-funded product that sells commercially. Every 4 years they do a refresh on their product and they're aiming to shorten their timeline from 4 years to 2 years and adding additional products. This Mechanical Engineering Manager will be leading their mechanical engineering team of 5-7 ME's and hardware repair technicians. This team is growing and introducing products at a fast rate and across multiple product lines. This person will be dedicating about 80% of their time to hands on work (turning wrenches, making CAD files, leading senior engineers, working at work benches, supervising at a facility for testing, testing methodologies, handling military standards etc.) and 20% of their time to supporting managerial activities (i.e. developing a resource plan, handing HR related duties etc.). This will be a full time role M-Fri onsite in San Diego, paying between $141-$200 with a 12% bonus depending on years of experience and qualifications.

Required Skills & Experience

- 10-15 years of Mechanical Engineering experience, leading engineering projects providing oversight and governance; Obtained Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- Experience managing a team of 5-7 engineers, conducting performance reviews, developing resource plans etc.
- MIL-STD testing (thermal, environmental, mechanical reliability etc.)
- Familiarity with PLM, CNC Machining used for Prototyping, 3D Printing, making CAD files and utilizing SolidWorks (2D/3D)
