Job Description
A lead defense contractor sitting in Simi Valley, CA is looking to hire an onsite Senior Electrical Engineer that will be responsible for designs, builds, and supports electrical systems for small unmanned aircraft (UAVs). This role focuses on hands‑on hardware design, testing, and integration, ensuring systems are safe, reliable, and meet performance requirements. The engineer works closely with avionics, embedded systems, RF, manufacturing, and flight test teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test electrical and electronic systems for unmanned aircraft.
- Create schematics, PCB designs, and technical documentation.
- Perform hands‑on lab work, including bring‑up, troubleshooting, and validation.
- Support R&D projects from concept through flight testing.
- Work with avionics, embedded systems, and RF communications.
- Coordinate with manufacturing and test teams to ensure designs meet requirements.
Inspect and validate systems to ensure compliance with design, safety, and performance standards.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware issues and identify root causes.
- Contribute to design decisions that impact cost, schedule, reliability, and performance.
- Support flight test operations as needed.
- Provide technical guidance and, at times, lead small projects or teams.
Technical Skills & Experience
Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals.
Experience with:
PCB design and the full hardware development lifecycle
HDL concepts (Verilog/VHDL)
C/C++
MATLAB
Familiarity with UAV subsystems and supporting software.
Comfortable working on complex, multi‑disciplinary systems.

Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 7–10+ years of electrical engineering experience, with background in defense, missiles, and/or aerospace programs.
- Senior‑level engineer with demonstrated ownership of designs from concept through test and integration.
- Hands‑on laboratory experience, including:
PCB/PCBA design
Electrical bring‑up, debug, and testing
Clear evidence of hands‑on work reflected on resume
- Experience using Altium Designer for:
- Schematic capture
- PCB layout and circuit design
- Experience with electrical CAD tools similar to Altium (acceptable equivalents considered).
- Proficiency in C++ and MATLAB for analysis, testing, or system support.
- Willingness and ability to travel ~10–20% for flight test site support, primarily seasonal and primarily on the West Coast.
