Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of the Office of Sponsored Projects, this position is responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and accepting sponsored awards according to established University policies, sponsor and governmental regulations, and management guidance.
Uses advanced contracting concepts to understand, manage, negotiate, and guide others in complex award terms and conditions, and to assess risk, acceptability, and compliance with University policies.
Works at a high level of independence to liaise with sponsoring agencies, negotiate acceptable terms and conditions that comply with University Policy, manage awards following established processes, analyze problems, formulate options, and coordinate with campus partners for the resolution of post-award and policy-related issues.
Acts as liaison between the University and sponsors. Is responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and accepting sponsored agreements from a wide variety of funders, including governmental, for-profit, non-profit, and other sources.
Administers award actions, manages award records, and works directly with sponsors on modifications to initial award terms as required. Drafts, negotiates, and execute sub-awards issued under sponsored projects.
Acts as a primary source in providing guidance and expertise on complex proposals and awards that may involve non-standard terms or extensive negotiation before acceptance.
Ensures the proper commitment of University resources and coordinates compliance with award elements requiring additional review (Human Subjects, Animal Subjects, Export control, Financial Conflict of Interest, etc.).
Independently exercises sound judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Identifies risks and responds accordingly.
