Job Description

Our client is known for offering services with a focus on outstanding quality, value added engineering and successful project outcomes. These services include engineering only and engineering/procurement/construction (EPC) services for high voltage powerlines and substations. The Substation Structural Civil Engineer will work within a multi-discipline team to develop designs and drawings of foundation and structural components for substation facilities in accordance with customer scope of work, industry standards and best practices, and environmental and soil conditions applicable industry codes and standards ensuring minimal cost while maintaining suitability and constructability of the design. This engineer will be responsible for all phases of designing structures and foundations for electrical transmission, switching, and distribution substations for the electric utility industry. This engineer will provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to less experienced engineers within the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop accurate civil designs for foundations that meet industry and client standards and applicable codes.
Develop accurate designs of complex structures that meet industry and client standards and applicable codes.
Perform quality reviews of civil/structural engineering work for both peers/sub-contractors on assigned projects.
Perform hand and/or software calculations in accordance with civil/structural codes and standards. And prepare calculation summaries for submittal.
Prepare preliminary construction drawing packages for submittal to construction contractors for bid. Reviewing incoming proposals for alignment with design and constructability of methods.
Assist with the development of project proposals, bid preparation, project schedules, etc. for assigned Substation projects.
Review incoming submittals for alignment with design and constructability of methods.
Assist project team during construction on civil issues.
Travel to client sites/field as necessary.
May act as lead engineer and/or engineer of record (with PE) for projects.
Mentor and assist junior engineers and designer in design.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelors Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
4-15+ years of experience in the Engineering/Design of Civil/Structural systems.
Experience with the analysis and design of concrete foundations (LPILE, RISA), anchorage systems, and the review of structural steel and connections, preferred.
Experience with multiple different types of foundations and soil conditions.
Autodesk ACAD Electrical and 3D software experience
Protection & Controls experience
SCADA knowledge and expertise (Transmission SCADA a plus)
Indoor and Outdoor design experience with building substations

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Masters degree in a relevant field.
Professional Engineering License is desirable.
Utilities or Energy Industries experience is a big plus.
Registration is a plus for both the Civils and Electricals
