Job Description

MG+M is seeking an accomplished Partner‑level Attorney to join its Insurance Defense Litigation practice in California. This role is ideal for a seasoned litigator with strong client relationships, experience managing complex matters, and interest in firm leadership and growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Litigation & Case Management
Lead and manage complex insurance defense matters, including general liability, toxic tort, and construction defect
Develop case strategy, analyze risk, and provide clients with proactive, solutions‑oriented guidance
Conduct all phases of litigation: pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, arbitration, trial, and appeals.
Ensure efficient and cost‑effective case management aligned with client expectations and billing guidelines
Client Relationship Management
Serve as a primary point of contact for key clients, maintaining and deepening long‑term relationships
Provide strategic counsel to claims professionals, corporate risk managers, and in‑house legal teams
Identify and pursue opportunities to expand services to existing clients
Practice Development & Leadership
Contribute to the firm’s overall business strategy and participate in leadership committees as appropriate
Generate new business by leveraging existing relationships, reputation in the insurance community, and thought leadership
Mentor and develop associates to support high‑quality legal work and professional growth
Collaborate with partners across practices to strengthen the firm’s service offerings
Operational & Administrative Responsibilities
Manage matter budgets, profitability, staffing, and client reporting
Participate in partnership meetings, and strategic planning sessions
Uphold the firm’s quality standards, culture, and commitment to client service

Required Skills & Experience

8-10+ years’ litigation experience
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school - must be an ADA accredited law school.
Admitted to practice in California
First-chair or significant trial experience a plus
Experience managing and supervising litigation teams
Contributions to business development/client retention
Strong organizational and case-management skills
Ability to multi-task (manage client, leadership, case responsibilities)
Other attributes: strategy, collaboration, accountability, professionalism

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Portable book of business/established relationship with clients/insurance carriers a plus
