Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a temporary IT Systems Technician for a short-term assignment (estimated 2–8 weeks) to support network cleanup, cable identification, hardware configuration, and general IT remediation tasks at a small government contractor. This role will work to document, organize, and restore accuracy to the company's internal network and workstation infrastructure. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable with physical IT work, and able to assist with day-to-day technical issues as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Network & Cabling Support
• Trace, identify, label, and document existing network cabling to map connections across the facilities.
• Terminate and re-terminate Ethernet cables (RJ45) as needed to bring connections up to standard.
• Assist in reorganizing network racks, patch panels, and cable runs for improved structure and maintainability.
• Verify connectivity, test cable runs, and help isolate physical layer issues.

Hardware Configuration & Setup
• Assist with setup, imaging, configuration, and deployment of workstations, laptops, and network-connected devices.
• Support installing or relocating hardware such as switches, access points, UPS units, and peripherals.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of hardware issues, connectivity problems, and workstation configurations.

System & User Support
• Respond to day-to-day technical support needs under supervision (password resets, software installs, peripheral issues, basic diagnostics).
• Support onboarding activities for temporary or new users, including workstation prep and MFA setup.
• Ensure equipment is properly tagged, recorded, and updated in IT asset tracking tools.

Documentation & Cleanup
• Document network cable routes, workstation locations, switch ports, and device assignments.
• Update labeling, diagrams, and IT records to reflect accurate system and network configurations.
• Assist in organizing IT storage, spares, cabling, and components for improved efficiency.

Required Skills & Experience

• Hands-on experience with basic IT support, cabling, or network installation tasks.
• Ability to crimp/terminate Ethernet cables and perform cable testing.
• Familiarity with Windows workstations, basic networking concepts, and common IT hardware.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience working with patch panels, network tracing tools, and structured cabling.
• Familiarity with Active Directory user setups, MFA enrollment, and Office 365 environments.
• CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification (preferred, not required).
• Prior experience supporting IT infrastructure in a small business or technical environment.
