This person will prepare and maintain design studies, drawings and engineering calculations under supervision. This person will communicate with other departments and provide them with technical assistance and information. This person will take an active role in problem resolution teams and interface with other Engineering groups, Production, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Vendors, Regulatory Bodies, and other disciplines as required.
Essential Functions & Duties
- Perform design analysis and support calculations for engineering product development including global/local FEA, CFD, etc
- Support the development of ship designs and/or underlying calculations and documentation
-Support research into internal (e.g. production, planning) and external customers (e.g. ABS, Navy, USCG) issues and interpretations
-Development of ship primary structure (Scantlings)
-Participates in internal working groups, including documenting discussions, decisions, and outcomes

- Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Naval Engineering, or Ocean Engineering
Could also be in Aerospace Engineering,
Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or
Mechanical Engineering but with direct
experience in structural ship design
- 5 to 15 years of experience developing ship primary structures (scantlings)
- 5 to 15 years of experience doing global and local finite element analyses (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
- Familiarity with ship classification society rulesets (ABS, DNV, Lloyds Register)
