Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Senior/Principal Patent Counsel for a top technology and semiconductor client. This individual will play a key role in developing and executing patent strategy for cutting edge technologies, working closely with engineering and product teams to transform innovations into high value patent assets. The ideal candidate is both technically strong and legally strategic, capable of owning complex patent matters from invention disclosure through prosecution, enforcement, and portfolio optimization. This is a highly visible, hands on role for someone looking to make a direct impact on a world class IP portfolio.
Day-to-Day:
• Develop and prosecute high quality patents aligned with product roadmaps and business objectives
• Manage and strategically grow a patent portfolio across domestic and international jurisdictions
• Partner closely with engineering and product teams to identify invention and IP opportunities
• Conduct patentability, infringement, and validity analyses with minimal oversight
• Draft and review claims, responses, continuations, and divisional strategies
• Assess prior art and develop prosecution and litigation strategies
• Oversee and collaborate with outside counsel to ensure quality, consistency, and cost control
• Provide IP guidance to business leaders and support broader IP department initiatives
• Manage dockets, timelines, and resources to ensure timely delivery of patent work
• Participate in portfolio reviews, invention harvesting sessions, and leadership discussions

Required Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA accredited law school
• Admitted to a U.S. state bar and in good standing
• Registered to practice before the USPTO
• Willingness to register as in house counsel with the California State Bar (if not already licensed)
• 3+ years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, or patent litigation
• Experience managing patent matters with outside counsel
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
• Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of patent law experience (law firm and/or in house)
• Experience with patents related to:
o System on Chip (SoC)
o Processors (CPU, GPU, DSP, NPU)
o Artificial Intelligence (AI)
o Memory design
o Low power circuitry
o Location technologies
• 2+ years of hands on engineering experience (software, electrical, communications, or similar)
• 2+ years managing a patent portfolio and related budgets
• 2+ years of patent litigation experience
