Job Description

Day to Day:
This engineer will support Meta Reality Labs by designing, building, testing, and refining next-generation soft-sensor prototypes for humanoid robotics applications. The role is highly hands-on and will involve working with electro-mechanical systems consisting of electronic chips, actuators, optics, elastomers, and both custom-built and off-the-shelf components. On a daily basis, this individual will fabricate and test elastomeric components, troubleshoot prototype hardware, collaborate closely with research teams, and rapidly iterate designs based on experimental findings. They will also help manage vendors, maintain bills of materials (BOMs), document prototype development, and ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and validate soft electro-mechanical systems utilizing actuators, sensors, optics, elastomers, and electronic components.
• Develop and fabricate elastomeric components using various manufacturing methods and characterize their mechanical properties.
• Create and improve prototype systems through rapid iteration and testing.
• Support development of graphical user interfaces used for measurement, monitoring, and control of electro-mechanical systems.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary research teams to refine prototype designs and support research objectives.
• Source and manage both custom and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and vendors.
• Develop and maintain detailed bills of materials (BOMs), technical documentation, and engineering records.
• Assist with budgeting, cost optimization, and material planning efforts.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures and engineering best practices.
