Job Description
Insight Global Consulting is partnering with one of the largest utility companies to support the Transmission Line Asset Management organization. We are seeking Senior Implementation Engineers to serve as project owners for transmission line projects and asset strategic implementation.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the right scope is implemented on time and on budget, while clearly understanding why projects are required from a system reliability, capacity, and operational standpoint. This is not a detailed design role; instead, it emphasizes project ownership, technical judgment, cost and schedule accountability, and close collaboration with transmission project engineers and other subject matter experts.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Implementation Ownership
Act as the project engineer / project owner for transmission line implementation initiatives.
Own and manage scope, schedule, and budget, incorporating technical, operational, and regulatory considerations.
Evaluate options based on cost, lead times, permitting constraints, and feasibility, and recommend the optimal path forward.
Ensure alignment with project sponsors, asset managers, and cross‑functional stakeholders.
Technical & System Understanding
Understand electrical system fundamentals, including power flow, capacity constraints, outage impacts, and reliability drivers.
Clearly articulate why infrastructure needs to be replaced or upgraded, such as:
System limitations during outage scenarios
Load growth or capacity shortfalls
Asset condition or reliability risks
Partner closely with Tline Project Engineers who serve as primary design and detailed technical stakeholders.
Integrate technical inputs to guide implementation decisions rather than performing detailed engineering design.
Asset Strategy & Lifecycle Support
Support or lead development, implementation, and management of asset lifecycle strategies, including installation, operation, maintenance, replacement, and retirement.
Address and manage emergency issues associated with assigned assets.
Support, perform, or lead root cause and cause‑analysis investigations, including quality audits where applicable.
Provide technical expertise on large, complex transmission line projects and asset initiatives.
Field, Stakeholder & Regulatory Support
Serve as a liaison with Maintenance and Construction teams, providing feedback on construction standards, field issues, and equipment performance.
Support regulatory, governmental, and third‑party coordination related to transmission line assets.
Understand and plan for execution realities, such as permitting timelines (e.g., ~6 months for certain 60kV projects) and long‑lead materials.
Conduct site visits as required to support execution and issue resolution.
Leadership & Knowledge Sharing
Act as a subject matter expert within assigned areas of transmission line assets and implementation.
Provide guidance and mentorship to less senior engineers.
Assist with identifying and evaluating new technologies, maintaining awareness through vendor engagement, conferences, and industry forums.
Develop and deliver specialized training related to transmission line asset implementation where applicable.
