Job Description
This role requires a seasoned professional with a comprehensive understanding of employee benefits and pension payroll systems. The position involves administering retirement benefits, ensuring accurate processing of pension payroll, and applying complex calculations. In addition to handling calculations, the role requires effective collaboration across departments to support employees with pension-related inquiries, training, and program administration. A key aspect of the position is managing and analyzing retirement benefit programs to ensure compliance with university policies and regulations while developing recommendations to improve overall program effectiveness.

Required Skills & Experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience in employee benefits, pension payroll, pension plans, or a related field, with a strong understanding of benefit program administration and pension payroll systems.
• Ability to perform manual calculations related to pension payroll and benefits, including benefit deductions, minimum required distributions, refunds, interest, and post-retirement benefit adjustments. Proficient in calculating benefits adjustments and setting up benefits recoveries.
• Strong analytical skills to assess complex data and develop actionable recommendations. Demonstrated ability to solve problems, analyze trends, and offer insights to improve processes and outcomes.
• In-depth understanding of employee benefits programs and policies, including retirement benefits. Ability to interpret and address both routine and unique benefit-related circumstances.
• Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and systems. Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other relevant tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and effectively to all organizational levels. Experience in group presentations and leading training/workshops.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure accuracy in reports and project delivery.
• Skilled in reviewing and resolving vendor discrepancy reports and handling member escalation cases with professionalism and accuracy.
• Able to work effectively with diverse teams, including those with strong personalities and varying work styles. Demonstrates respect, tact, and collaboration even under pressure.
• Thorough understanding of relevant state and federal regulations regarding employee benefits and pension plans. Expert knowledge of Medicare/CMS rules and their impact on retiree coverage.
• Proactive and self-directed, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and innovate solutions to improve program delivery and service.
• A proven problem-solver with a strong customer service orientation, always willing to go the extra mile in providing exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders.
