Job Description

Copywriting and Editing (Delivering our message) :

Write clean, entertaining copy that will inform players about our Core Games across a wide range of content formats, from single-sentence social copy to longform developer interviews and everything in between.

Submit your writing through a multi-stage approval process and adeptly field any incoming edits, incorporating feedback from marketing stakeholders, external developers, and internal legal counsel to ensure that any public-facing messaging has been fully vetted.

Juggle multiple deadlines running in tandem, prioritizing requests as they come in and being flexible if plans suddenly change.

Peer-edit other articles to ensure that we maintain a consistent brand voice and weed out any would-be errors.

Partner with other 2K teams including Social Marketing, Community Relations, and Digital Portfolio Marketing to ensure that copy deliveries are correctly formatted for their needs.

Shepherd finalized English copy through a localization process via an external agency.

Collaborate with web engineers to ensure that website copy is always delivered on time—or better yet, early!

Content Strategy (Influencing our marketing):

Ideate Digital Content plans that will meet the needs of our dedicated communities and grow our audience even further.

Regularly meet with members of the Digital Community Marketing team, including Social Marketing, Community Relations, Influencer and Creator Marketing, and Digital Portfolio Marketing disciplines, to identify and execute on new opportunities for informative content.

Identify any potential knowledge gaps in content requests, and proactively seek out answers to nitty-gritty questions our players might have by working with our internal Brand Marketing and Product Development teams.

Conduct interviews with game developers that can turn into longform Dev Diary articles, requiring transcription and close collaboration to make this behind-the-scenes content the very best it can be.

Required Skills & Experience

You have 3-6 years of professional copywriting experience within the gaming, media, and/or entertainment industries.

Deep knowledge and genuine passion for games writing, able to identify what resonates with players and the types of information they crave.

A can-do attitude with a welcoming approach to feedback and copy edits that will make the finished product shine. You have a keen eye for spotting and fixing any mistakes without shaming anyone in the process.

Highly collaborative with others, contributing creative and innovative ideas for engaging and growing our community.

Taking pride in your work and committing to write everything yourself; you resoundingly reject the use of AI copy on principle. You believe that players have a fundamental need to connect with copy written by and for humans.

You are highly organized, timely, communicative, and aren't afraid to ask for help when you need it. You also understand that everyone else is wrangling multiple tasks at all times, so you strive to be diplomatic and patient with your peers.

Keep in tune with trends in gaming, watching out for new avenues we can pursue and mistakes we should avoid.

Expert knowledge of the Borderlands, Civilization, and/or Mafia franchises is a huge plus!
