Job Description

This role sits on the owner’s side and is not responsible for designing fire protection systems directly. Instead, the focus is on internal consulting, providing guidance on fire code requirements, and helping teams understand how to meet them. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, design teams, and engineers to interpret code requirements, explain why specific requirements exist, and outline multiple compliant paths forward.
A key part of the role is developing fire protection strategies across systems rather than executing detailed design work, including supporting performance-based approaches and alternative means and methods. You will review scenarios, assess risk, and guide decision-making—particularly in complex environments such as data centers and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The role also requires strong communication skills to clearly present technical positions, defend code interpretations, and align stakeholders.
You will operate largely in the background as a technical advisor, partnering with both site-level and system-level teams to support fire protection strategy, code compliance, and risk-informed decision making.

We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to HR@insightglobal.com.To learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: https://insightglobal.com/workforce-privacy-policy/.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of fire protection codes and standards (NFPA, ICC, local AHJ requirements) with the ability to interpret and apply them in real scenarios
• Experience in a fire protection consulting / advisory capacity (vs. purely design-focused roles)
• Proven ability to explain code requirements and present multiple compliant solutions (not just execute a single design approach)
• Experience with performance-based design, alternative means and methods, or risk-based fire protection strategies
• Background working in complex industrial environments such as oil & gas, manufacturing, or energy systems
• Experience with or strong exposure to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to cross-functional stakeholders and justify decisions
• Strong problem-structuring skills and ability to work independently in a consultative role

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience with top fire protection consulting firms (e.g., Jensen Hughes, ARUP, SCS Group, Fire & Risk Alliance)
• Exposure to data center environments and understanding of occupancy classifications (e.g., Group B vs. F1) and associated fire protection requirements
• Familiarity with fire protection considerations specific to data centers or mission-critical facilities
• Experience presenting and defending technical positions related to fire code interpretation
• Demonstrated ability to assess and communicate fire protection strategies for different occupancy types
• Strong organizational skills and ability to operate effectively in a low-visibility, high-impact advisory role

Benefit packages for this role will start on the 1st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
