Job Description

Ford Motor Company is hiring a Design Engineer – Body Exterior (Lighting / Tail Lamp) to support the concept, design, and launch of exterior lighting systems, with a primary focus on tail lamps. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong fundamentals, hands‑on CAD experience, and an interest in lighting and electro‑mechanical systems.
The team is looking for someone who can own parts from early concept through production, work cross‑functionally with suppliers and internal teams, and understand why requirements exist—not just follow them.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electro‑Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or equivalent experience)
• 2+ years of engineering experience (automotive, lighting, body exterior, or similar)
• CAD experience required
○ CATIA preferred ( (V5/V6 / 3DX)
○ NX acceptable (must be open to transitioning to CATIA)
• Strong engineering fundamentals
• Understanding of design for manufacturing
• Willingness to work onsite in California (preferred)
• Ability to collaborate across teams and suppliers
• PST time zone overlap required

Nice‑to‑Have / Strong Pluses
• Experience with exterior lighting or tail lamps
• Electro‑mechanical system experience
• Knowledge of:
○ GD&T
○ DFMEA
○ Plastic materials and injection molding
○ Lamp manufacturing processes
• Launch experience
• Startup experience (hands‑on, broad responsibility)
