Safety Manager - Construction

The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for proactively ensuring that all construction activities—specifically structural work, tool installation, and mechanical crafting—are planned and executed safely. This role goes beyond traditional site safety enforcement by actively reviewing construction plans, methods of procedure (MOPs), lift plans, and sequencing to identify and mitigate risk before work begins.

The Safety Manager serves as an independent safety authority on site, partnering with construction managers, superintendents, engineers, and trade partners to verify that every scope of work is built on a safe, executable plan, not just a compliant one.

Key Responsibilities

Proactive Safety Planning & Plan Validation
- Review construction drawings, installation plans, lift plans, MOPs, and sequencing plans for structural steel, heavy equipment, tool install, and mechanical scopes to proactively identify safety risks prior to execution
- Validate that construction plans are not only code‑compliant but logistically and operationally safe for real‑world field conditions
- Identify gaps, conflicts, or unsafe assumptions in construction plans and work with project teams to resolve them before work starts
- Participate in pre‑construction and pre‑task planning meetings to ensure safety is embedded into execution strategy

Field Safety Leadership
- Serve as the on‑site safety authority with the ability to stop work when unsafe conditions or practices are identified
- Conduct daily field walks and job hazard analyses (JHAs) focused on high‑risk activities such as rigging, lifts, elevated work, mechanical installs, and tool setting
- Verify that approved plans and safe work methods are being followed in the field
- Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection, lockout/tagout, confined space controls, and energy isolation procedures

Structural, Mechanical & Tool Install Expertise
- Oversee safety for complex construction scopes including:
Structural steel erection and modification
Heavy tool and equipment installation
Mechanical systems installation (HVAC, piping, utilities)
Rigging, hoisting, and critical lift activities
- Review rigging plans, crane setups, load paths, and clearances for safety and feasibility

Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, site‑specific safety programs, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations
- Maintain safety documentation including permits, JHAs, inspection logs, incident reports, and corrective action tracking
- Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation

Collaboration & Communication
- Partner closely with construction managers, superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to align on safe execution strategies
- Act as a safety advisor and mentor, promoting a strong safety culture across all trades
- Clearly communicate risks, corrective actions, and safety expectations to all levels of the organization

Pay Range for this role is $50 - $60 depending on years of experience and education.

- 7+ years of experience in construction safety management, preferably within industrial, manufacturing, or large‑scale commercial construction
- Strong hands‑on knowledge of structural steel, mechanical systems, and tool/equipment installation
- Proven experience reviewing and validating construction plans, lift plans, and work procedures for safety
- Deep understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices
- Ability to identify unsafe conditions proactively rather than reactively
- Strong field presence with the confidence to challenge unsafe plans or practices

- Experience on active manufacturing, data center, or high‑tech industrial sites
- Background as a superintendent, foreman, or craft professional prior to moving into safety
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence without authority
