Job Description

Tetra Tech Solid Waste West (SWW) is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Field Technician to support and lead field operations across solid waste and landfill gas projects. This role is responsible for overseeing monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of Gas Collection & Control Systems (GCCS) while supervising field staff and ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple sites. The Senior Technician will act as a technical lead and primary point of contact for clients and regulators, driving project execution, safety compliance, and high-quality field performance.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and oversee field operations supporting monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of GCCS
• Supervise and mentor junior field technicians, ensuring quality, safety, and performance compliance
• Manage environmental field projects from planning through execution
• Serve as primary liaison between clients, regulators, and internal teams
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of landfill gas (LFG) and GCCS issues
• Oversee operation and maintenance of liquids extraction systems
• Ensure accurate environmental monitoring, data collection, and documentation
• Maintain compliance with environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and company policies
• Work in outdoor environments involving long distances, steep terrain, and extreme weather conditions

Required Skills & Experience

• High school diploma with 5+ years of relevant environmental field or landfill gas system experience
• Proven experience supervising staff and managing field-based projects
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and landfill gas system operations
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems (pumps, blowers, instrumentation)
• Proficient with environmental monitoring equipment (FID, PID, gas detectors, water level meters, LFG analyzers)
• Ability to analyze environmental data and utilize tools such as Excel and databases
• Ability to lift 50 lbs (non-consistent basis) and meet physical demands of fieldwork
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; willingness to travel

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• A.S. or B.S. degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Ecology, or related field
• Light equipment operation experience; HDPE pipe fusion experience
• OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification (and annual 8-hour refresher)
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
