Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Data Governance Specialist to join a large retail client on a 6-month contract. This resource will support the Data Governance team in maturing and operationalizing Microsoft Purview across the organization, with a strong focus on governance practices, data visibility, and secure data access.
This role will be responsible for supporting the configuration and ongoing optimization of the Purview environment, ensuring system health, monitoring, and issue resolution across key platforms including Databricks and Power BI. The Specialist will play a key role in enabling automated data scanning and classification to identify sensitive data, map data lineage, and support visibility into the broader data estate.
From a governance and security standpoint, this resource will help define and implement secure access workflows leveraging Entra ID / Active Directory, ensuring proper controls and approvals are in place for data access across the organization. They will also support maintaining audit trails and records of processing to align with compliance and regulatory requirements.
In addition, this individual will act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders—creating documentation, training materials, and guidance to help users understand and effectively navigate Purview capabilities. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement will be critical to ensuring successful adoption and alignment with enterprise data governance policies.

Required Skills & Experience

Must Haves:
• 3+ years of direct experience working with Microsoft Purview in a large enterprise environment
• Strong understanding of data governance, data protection, and compliance principles
• Deep Expertise in one of the following Purview categories: Data Quality (ex. roles definitions), Data Scanning (ex. customizing / connecting to Databricks), Data Classification (ex. Sensitivity labels).
• Experience with data classification, lineage, and automated scanning within Purview
• Hands-on experience implementing or supporting access controls using Entra ID / Active Directory
• Ability to communicate complex data/governance concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Plusses:
• Experience interacting with Databricks
• Implementation experience / apart of a DG roll out
• Retail industry experience
• Experience creating training materials or enabling business users on data governance tools
• Strong technical documentation skills
• Microsoft Purview or related certifications
