Business Analyst

Insight Global is seeking a Business Analyst for a Large retail client in North Vancouver BC. This Business analyst will be tasked with a discovery project as this company looks ahead to expansion in a new country. They will be communicating with diverse business stakeholders in finance, merchandising planning and allocation, supply chain, retail to understand their evolving global data and analytics needs. They will additionally be generating power BI dashboards, and supporting with ad hoc data and analytic requests.

In addition, the BA will:
• Partner with PMs on product discovery: clarify problem statements, assess feasibility, size effort, and shape the MVP for finance analytics products.
• Refine requirements: run stakeholder interviews/workshops, translate business needs into clear PRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Model the data with our architects/engineers: contribute to fact/dimension design and source-to-target mapping; review technical specs for feasibility and completeness.
• Hands-on build: create and iterate Power BI datasets/models/reports (DAX, Power Query/M), publish to workspaces
• SQL analysis & validation: write queries to profile data, reconcile metrics, and debug issues across sources; document assumptions and edge cases.
• Quality & UAT: define test cases and run functional/data validation
• Light production support: monitor refreshes during business hours, investigate anomalies, and coordinate fixes with the team.
• User engagement: demo increments, gather feedback, write user guidance/how-tos, deliver short training sessions, and collect adoption/usage feedback

Must-have skills & experience

- 5 years of Business Analyst work within a data centric teams
- Experience in a discovery project
- Ability to perform dimensional modelling such as writing PRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria; running discovery workshops; facilitating UAT.
- Strong Power BI Skills and a proven ability to perform full scale report development DAX, Power Query/M, data modeling, report design, publishing.
- Strong SQL skills for power bi work and for data validation and analysis
- Jira/ Agile skills within backlog management, sprint ceremonies, and incremental delivery
- Strong Excel skills with Power Pivot and complex formulas for quick analysis and stakeholder-ready views.

Nice-to-have
• Retail background
• Azure data stack exposure (Databricks, Data Factory)
• Basic observability for BI assets (simple data checks, alerting patterns) and performance tuning awareness.
