Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer, you will ensure the long term reliability, stability, and regulatory compliance of the provincial transmission system. Your work directly supports Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS), long term planning, and system performance analysis across 1-, 5-, and 10 year horizons. You will lead technical studies, maintain and enhance system models, collaborate with operations to ensure accurate data inputs, and communicate findings to senior leadership and regulatory bodies in clear, actionable terms.
This individual will be supporting with:
- Mandatory Reliability Compliance — Conduct annual power flow and transient stability studies to demonstrate compliance with NERC/WECC MRS.
- System Stress Testing — Run consistency and stress analyses across 1-, 5-, and 10 year horizons to ensure the network meets reliability thresholds.
- Database & Model Maintenance — Maintain topology, forecasts, and operational data; ensure models reflect the most accurate system conditions.
- Load Forecasting Integration — Work hands on with load forecast teams to understand adoption rates, timing, and impacts on system planning.
- WECC Coordination — Exchange data, maintain regional models, and support interconnected reliability efforts with BC Hydro and WECC.
- Annual Power Flow Analysis — Produce forward looking 5–10 year system assessments and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Long Term Planning Support — Contribute to 5 year and 20 year capital plans, EV load modelling, resource planning, and regulatory processes.
- Stakeholder Collaboration — Work with operations, regulatory teams, and external partners to identify and prioritize transmission projects.

Required Skills & Experience
- Siemens PSS®E Experience - Minimum 8 years using PSS®E for power flow, stability, and transmission planning studies.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) - Registered or eligible for registration with EGBC.
- Transmission Planning Experience - 10+ years performing power flow analysis, long term planning, and reliability assessments.
- Stakeholder Communication - Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to regulatory bodies, senior management, and cross functional teams.
- Technical Writing - Ability to simplify complex engineering findings for executive audiences.
- Regulatory & CPCN Experience - Experience contributing to CPCN filings, gathering facts, and supporting regulatory evidence packages.
- Reliability & Compliance Knowledge - Deep familiarity with NERC/WECC reliability standards and compliance reporting.
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Advanced Written Communication - Exceptional clarity in reports, regulatory submissions, and executive summaries.
- Analytical Skills - Ability to interpret complex datasets, forecast trends, and model future system conditions.
- Additional Planning Tools - Experience with complementary modelling platforms or scripting for automation
