As an Pipeline System Engineer, youll lead the technical development and preconstruction planning of multiple pipeline and facility projects. Youll be responsible for scoping, risk mitigation, design coordination, and preparing projects for seamless handover to construction. This role demands a broad skill set and the ability to manage diverse topicsfrom geohazards to electromagnetic field impactsacross 612 active projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project Development & Technical Oversight
Advance pipeline projects to construction-ready status.
Assess pipeline crossings, layout options, and risk mitigation strategies.
Address geohazards (landslides, debris flows, river erosion) and electromagnetic field impacts from neighboring electrical projects.
Design and manage meter, regulator, and compressor stations.
Stakeholder Coordination
Collaborate with operations to define design basis and maintenance needs.
Engage construction teams early to align on execution plans.
Navigate land permitting and regulatory requirements.
Consultant & Third-Party Management
Lead 1050 consultants through detailed design and procurement phases.
Review third-party crossing assessments and ensure compliance.
Liaise directly with external teams and internal stakeholders.
Hydraulic System Planning
Conduct capacity studies for new customer connections.
Support system planning and logistics for pipeline services.
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare and review technical documents (PFDs, P&IDs, hazard assessments, etc.).
Ensure alignment with CSA Z662, BCER, OGAA, and other regulatory standards.
Champion safety, quality, and process integrity across all phases.

Minimum 5 years of facilities and pipeline design/project engineering experience in oil & gas or resource industries, with owner/operator or EPCM firms; includes fieldwork in operational and project settings.
Skilled in pipeline hydraulic modeling, system planning, design, construction, and asset integrity (e.g., inspections, corrosion protection, ground disturbance).
Experience with natural gas compression and gas plant operations is an asset.
Engineering degree (Mechanical, Process, or Chemical) from a Canadian institution recognized in British Columbia.
Registered Professional Engineer in B.C. or eligible for designation transfer; EITs with relevant experience may be considered.
Familiar with BC Energy Regulator and Technical Safety BC regulations.
Proficient in CSA Z662, OGAA, Pipeline Regulation, and Oil & Gas Processing Facility Regulation.
Knowledge of OH&S standards, including WorkSafe BC.
Experience with BC Oil and Gas Commission applications, permitting, and operations systems.
Well-versed in industry codes and standards (CSA, API, ASME, CEPA, PHMSA, WSBC, TSBC, BCER).
Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.
Sound decision-making and leadership capabilities.
