Overview
Our client is seeking a Software Developer in Test I (SDET I) to join a fast-paced Agile Scrum team responsible for delivering high-quality applications and services. This is a hands-on automation testing role focused primarily on API testing, automation development, regression testing, smoke testing, and validating new feature releases.
The ideal candidate will work closely with developers, Business Systems Analysts, Product Managers, and Senior Test Engineers while helping expand and maintain automation coverage across backend applications and services. This is not a traditional manual QA position; the team is looking for someone who enjoys automation, coding, and building a long-term career in software testing and quality engineering.
Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for APIs and backend applications
Create automation coverage for new features, enhancements, and regression testing efforts
Perform smoke testing, pre-release testing, and functional validation activities
Collaborate closely with developers, BSAs, Product Managers, and fellow SDETs within Agile Scrum teams
Support senior test engineers with automation initiatives and framework enhancements
Maintain and expand existing automation frameworks and test suites
Perform API testing and validation using Postman Collections and related tooling
Identify, document, and track software defects through resolution
Validate backend functionality, integrations, and application workflows
Participate in sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies
Utilize AI-assisted tools and technologies to improve testing efficiency and productivity
Growth Opportunity
This role provides a defined growth path from SDET I to SDET II and Senior SDET while working alongside experienced automation engineers and contributing to enterprise-scale testing initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience
1+ years of SDET, QA Automation, or Software Test Engineering experience
Hands-on automation testing experience (not strictly manual QA)
Experience performing API testing and API automation
Experience with API testing tools such as Postman/Postman Collections (preferred), ReadyAPI, or similar tools
Ability to write automation code in Java (preferred) or another Object-Oriented programming language
Experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium (preferred), Playwright, Cypress, Appium, or similar
Experience maintaining and enhancing existing automation frameworks and test suites
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to learn and adapt to existing tools, frameworks, and team standards
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
AWS or other cloud platform experience
Java-based automation suite experience
SQL/MySQL experience
Maven and Git experience
Jenkins, Harness, or other CI/CD tools
Kafka or event-driven architecture exposure
Experience with AI tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar
