Job Description

Job overview:
Participates in a variety of data analysis and modeling functions including identification of resource needs and selections, evaluating wholesale markets, planning and assisting with system operations, assessing other business or operational plans or items utilizing advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques, and regulatory support. Develop resource plan alternatives based on market trends and conditions, wholesale market changes or other analytical findings critical to the business. This role is crucial for ensuring that APS can provide reliable, affordable, and clean energy to its customers.

A Business Analyst in the Resource Planning department at Arizona Public Service (APS) typically handles several key responsibilities:
Data Analysis and Reporting: They analyze data related to energy consumption, generation, and market trends to support resource planning decisions
Integrated Resource Planning (IRP): Assisting in the development and updating of the Integrated Resource Plan, which outlines how APS will meet future energy demands with a balanced mix of resources
Stakeholder Collaboration: Working with various stakeholders, including the Resource Planning Advisory Council (RPAC), to ensure transparency and incorporate diverse perspectives into the planning process
Process Improvement: Identifying and recommending improvements in resource planning processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
Financial Modeling: Creating financial models to forecast costs and benefits of different resource planning scenarios

Required Skills & Experience

BS/BA Degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, information technology, mathematics, physics or similar quantitative field

2 years related business analytics experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with demonstrated comparable knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of principles of economic unit commitment/dispatch, wholesale market operations and the functional and economic characteristics of Company power resources and the interconnected system is desired.

Basic knowledge of natural gas markets including contracts, and utilization within a power plant.

Familiar with PLEXOS Energy Modeling Software
- PLEXOS is a sophisticated energy modeling software used for simulating and analyzing energy markets. It helps in making informed decisions across various energy sectors, including electricity, gas, water, and renewable energy sources.
