Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Industrial Controls Engineer to support a large power generation client in Ontario. This will be a 6-month contract to start, with the possibility of extension or conversion to permanent. The expectation is to work 4 days a week on the sites (Brampton, North York, Windsor) and one day from home. This role will support multiple operating facilities by providing expertise in industrial control systems, instrumentation, automation, and plant reliability. The engineer will serve as a technical resource for control system troubleshooting, upgrades, lifecycle management, and integration projects while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and IT teams.

This position is heavily focused on Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) and industrial automation within live plant environments. The Senior Industrial Controls Engineer will support PLC, DCS, SCADA, and RTU systems, assist with system upgrades and integrations, and provide technical guidance to ensure safe and reliable plant operations. This role requires a candidate who is comfortable working onsite and travelling periodically to facilities throughout Ontario.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5 -10 years of Industrial Controls, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), or Automation Engineering experience
• Experience working within an operating industrial facility, power plant, utility, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment
• Hands-on experience with at least two of the following: PLC, DCS, SCADA, RTU
• Strong experience with at least two of the following industrial communication protocols: Modbus, DNP3, OPC, or ICCP
• Experience with operational data historians
• Experience programming, troubleshooting, upgrading, and supporting industrial control systems
• Understanding of instrumentation and controls design principles, standards, and best practices
• Experience supporting multi-vendor control system environments and integrations
• Familiarity with operational data historians and SQL databases
• Willingness to travel between operating facilities throughout Ontario
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Process Control Engineering, or related discipline

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Experience supporting facilities operating in a 24/7 environment
• Knowledge of industrial networking and OT network troubleshooting
• Familiarity with ICS/OT cybersecurity principles and best practices
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
