Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Safety Codes Officer (Electrical) to support a large utility provider in Alberta. This role will be responsible for conducting field inspections of recent electrical installations to ensure compliance with the Alberta Safety Codes Act, applicable regulations, and internal utility standards.

This position will support both internal crews and external service providers, providing independent inspection oversight to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. This role is field based, with the requirement to travel across regions of Alberta. This is a contract role for a 6 month duration. Mileage and travel expenses are covered.

Key Responsibilities
• Conduct on‑site inspections of recent electrical installations to verify compliance with:
○ Alberta Safety Codes Act and Regulations
○ Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
○ Utilities standards and specifications
• Inspect work completed by internal utility crews and third‑party contractors
• Identify deficiencies, non‑conformances, and safety risks
• Document inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions
• Provide technical guidance and clarification on code interpretation
• Collaborate with operations, construction, and asset teams to resolve issues
• Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• Alberta Journeyman Electrician Certificate OR Powerline Technician Certificate AND 6 years of related field experience OR Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technologist AND 8 years of related experience
• Active Safety Codes Officer (Electrical) certification—Level A (Low Voltage), Level B (High Voltage), or ideally both.
• Demonstrated experience conducting electrical inspections or related compliance assessments.
• Strong understanding of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems and installation practices.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to job sites.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

• Ability to perform both high-voltage and low-voltage inspections (dual-qualified).
• Previous experience working within utility, industrial, or major infrastructure environments.
Familiarity with unionized work environments and/or operating in mixed union/non-union structures
