Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Commodity Risk Manager to support an Alberta based utility company on a 15 month, maternity leave backfill. This individual will serve as a key leader within the commodity risk function, providing oversight of risk management activities while acting as the business lead for a major ETRM (Energy Trading & Risk Management) system implementation.

This role sits at the intersection of risk governance, team leadership, and system transformation, requiring a strong understanding of energy markets, risk reporting, and trade lifecycle processes.

This an on site opportunity, 5 days per week, with flexibility to work remote where needed.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage a team of 3 providing coaching, mentorship, and professional development support
• Ensure all risk deliverables are accurate, timely, and aligned with internal standards
• Act as the primary escalation point for risk-related issues and decision-making
• Review and interpret weekly, monthly, and quarterly risk reports
• Oversee risk model outputs (VaR, MTM, exposure reporting), ensuring accuracy and alignment with business needs
• Represent the risk function at senior forums, including the Energy Risk Management Committee (ERMC)
• Maintain alignment across front, middle, and back office functions
• Ensure data integrity across trade capture, pricing, valuation, and reporting processes
• Serve as the business lead / SME for ongoing ETRM implementation
• Gather, validate, and translate business requirements into system design inputs
• Ensure system configuration aligns with:
○ Risk reporting requirements
○ Trade lifecycle and operational workflows
• Review and validate system outputs against existing processes and reporting frameworks
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including test case review and validation
• Coordinate with key stakeholders:
○ IT Project Manager (delivery execution)
○ Vendor (Hitachi)
System Integrator (EPAM)

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of experience in commodity risk, trading, or energy market environments
• Prior exposure to ETRM systems and/or implementations (platform-agnostic)
• Experience across power, natural gas, renewables, or environmental markets
• Strong understanding of:
○ Commodity risk reporting and key metrics (MTM, VaR, exposure)
○ Full trade lifecycle (front → middle → back office)
○ Valuation concepts and risk controls
• Proven ability to:
○ Validate reporting logic and system outputs
○ Translate business requirements into technical/system needs
• Experience managing teams OR a strong senior-level resource ready to step into leadership
• Must possess the ability to:
○ Influence stakeholders across business and technical teams
○ Represent the risk function with senior leadership
○ Balance strategic oversight with hands-on project execution
