Job Description

The Project Superintendent – Governmental is responsible for the safe, timely, and cost‑effective execution of all contracted construction work in the field for governmental projects based in Montgomery, AL, with required travel. This role oversees the placement and coordination of all project work, ensuring construction is completed in accordance with contract documents, design requirements, safety standards, budget, and schedule commitments. The Superintendent supervises subcontractors, craft labor, and self‑performed work while serving as the primary on‑site interface with owners, client representatives, architects, engineers, and internal project teams.

The Superintendent plans, coordinates, and supervises all on‑site functions including scheduling, engineering activities, material control, and day‑to‑day coordination with on‑site administrative staff such as accounting and purchasing. This role manages all self‑performed and subcontracted work to maintain quality, productivity, cost control, and schedule integrity, conducts weekly subcontractor meetings, and is responsible for weekly labor cost reporting. The role requires the ability to crawl, climb, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend, kneel, crouch, stand for long periods, lift and hold more than 50 lbs, talk, hear, and occasionally sit. The position also requires the ability to safely work in confined spaces and at extreme heights. Exposure to hot, cold, humid, and wet conditions is expected depending on project location.

Required Skills & Experience

-High School diploma or GED
-10–15 years of experience as a Supervisor or Superintendent on similar construction projects
-Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise subcontractors and craft employees
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Proven ability to manage construction activities safely, profitably, on schedule, and within budget
-Experience supervising total construction efforts to ensure compliance with design, contract documents, and safety requirements
-Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise on‑site functions including scheduling, engineering, and material control
-Experience conducting weekly subcontractor meetings and coordinating work plans
-Experience managing self‑performed and subcontracted work
-Experience with labor productivity management and weekly labor cost reporting
-Strong knowledge of construction safety practices and jobsite compliance
-Ability to work full‑time in physically demanding construction environments and travel as required

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

-QCM certification
-OSHA 30 certification
-Four‑year degree in Building Science, Construction Management, or Engineering
-Experience on governmental or public sector construction projects
-Experience with craft hiring, placement, and training
-Experience managing complex, multi‑trade construction projects
