Job Description
This position will work with the Mining organization within the Shovels team to evaluate system-level designs to meet equipment performance goals. Will provide guidance for electrical schematic and technical publication development, and simplify purchased items to a usable file size and create routed assemblies between main components. Must be able to create drawings in SolidWorks in compliance with P&H standards, enter SolidWorks/AutoCad files into the PDM software, and participate in design reviews and stand-up meetings. Should recommend solutions, participate in design reviews and projects. Interpret and apply customer requirements, industry standards, design and manufacturing standards to ensure that designs meet our customer requirements at an agreed upon level of performance and reliability. Will be required to identify and resolve technical issues and questions within area of expertise with the support of the shovel team. Provide feedback to other team members and supervision. Execute approved design solutions. Support for electric motors, drives, and power distribution on board Komatsu surface mining equipment. Responsibilities include collaborating with large motor, drive, and transformer suppliers in sizing and specifying new designs, resolving field-related issues, and supporting prototype field commissioning. Additional responsibilities include specifying low and medium voltage components, resolving power quality issues, and providing guidance for electrical schematic and cabinet layout.
Engineering systems that this person would be exposed to:
- Electrical systems
- Machine power distribution, sizing of circuit breakers, fuses, control wiring, wiring duct sizing per NEC guidelines
- Cable & Transformer sizing
- Understand point-to-point wiring and schematic layouts using AutoCad Electrical or other software tool.
- Developing wire lists, cable routing and cable installation drawings
- Designing subpanel lay-outs

Required Skills & Experience
- BSEE and 8+ years experience in electrical system;
- Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, UL, and ISO guidelines and standards for sizing and specifying electrical components, wires, and cabling
- Proficient in the use of computer aided design (CAD) tools, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, Some experience working with a PDM software package.
- Some travel required for prototype commissioning
- Proficient with AutoCad (over 3 years of experience)
- Have a basic understanding of all the mechanical systems
- Have a basic understanding of SolidWorks
- Utilize CAD tool to design components and assemblies in 3D-
