Job Description

Job Description:
We are seeking a Design Systems Specialist to help scale and modernize a multi-product design system. This role will focus heavily on tokenization, Figma system architecture, and optimizing the design system for AI consumption.

This is a highly cross-functional role working across design and engineering teams to establish a scalable, consistent foundation that supports multiple products, frameworks, and theming.

Responsibilities:
· Design and implement a scalable multi-product architecture, including library structure, naming conventions, token hierarchy, and theming model, that can support current and future products.
· Define and implement a robust design token architecture (colors, spacing, typography, etc.)
· Own tokenization strategy and ensure tokens are reusable, scalable, and exportable for engineering
· Implement and optimize Figma wiring (variables, Tokens Studio, component connections) to enforce consistent token usage
· Support both the existing Angular and new React component libraries; document how system components map to design tokens and variant conventions, ensuring the token pipeline outputs work correctly for both frameworks
· Establish and manage theming capabilities (e.g., light/dark themes, multi-product themes)
· Audit the current design system and identify gaps in structure, documentation, and consistency
· Partner with engineering to support design-to-code handoff, including alignment with token pipelines (e.g., Style Dictionary or equivalent)
· Define and implement design system governance (naming conventions, library structure, usage standards)
· Ensure all foundational elements (color palettes, ramps, typography scales, spacing systems) are structured and scalable
· Incorporate accessibility best practices, including color contrast and token-level compliance
· Lead efforts to optimize the design system for AI consumption across all layers, token structure, component API documentation, Figma library hygiene, and machine-readable context files, and evaluate MCP server integration as a live connection layer for AI tooling
· Audit the current ZeroHeight documentation as part of the broader system assessment and provide recommendations on how to improve its structure and leverage its capabilities to support token documentation and AI-readiness.
Act as a consultative, hands-on leader bridging design and engineering teams

Required Skills & Experience

· Deep expertise in design tokenization (primary focus) and experience optimizing design systems for AI consumption, including structuring tokens, components, and documentation for machine readability and identifying gaps for AI-driven workflows
· Experience working within and improving an established design system, not only greenfield builds
· Strong experience with Figma system architecture, including variables, Tokens Studio (or similar), and wiring components/libraries to tokens at scale
· Proven ability to build and scale design systems for SaaS products, including multi-product support, library management, governance, and naming conventions
· Experience with theming (e.g., light/dark, product variations) and designing flexible, reusable systems
· Solid understanding of foundational design system principles, including color systems (palettes/ramps), typography scales, spacing, and accessibility considerations (e.g., contrast compliance)
· Experience partnering with engineering on design-to-code workflows, including component libraries (React preferred) and token implementation/export
· Strong experience auditing and improving design system structure and documentation, ensuring consistency and scalability
Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on, acting as a bridge between design and engineering

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

· Experience with Zeroheight (knowledge of its capabilities)
· Familiarity with MCP server setup for design tooling
Familiarity with headless React component libraries such as Base UI or ShadCN
