Job Description

We're hiring a Senior Backend AI Engineer to support one of North America's largest retail technology clients - joining a well-established SRE team that needs your AI software engineering prowess. You will act as the SME for all things AI. The right candidate will have at least 10 years of relevant software engineering experience, and 3+ years of hands-on AI development work with a variety of AI models and tools. In this role, you will bring your vast knowledge of AI platforms/tooling, to make recommendations on the best AI tools used for various POC projects our client is working on. Beyond making the recommendation, you will be able to explain the "why" behind the AI tooling recommended AND be able to execute on the engineering work needed to make it happen. We are looking for a hands on engineer who is excited about DOING the work, not just building the strategy. You will lead development of AI POCs in the SRE space, driving operational, reliability, quality and cost-saving outcomes. Make decisions about which AI tools and models best match which use cases. Teach fellow team members techniques for getting the most out of AI. Evaluate and document outcomes of POCs and make recommendations for next steps.

Required Skills & Experience

10+ years' experience as a software engineer supporting back end software development work.
3+ years' supporting AI development work, working with multiple AI tools/platforms such as Claude, Gemini, GPT, Hugging Face, OpenAI, etc.
Proficiency in back-end technologies and programming languages and a deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
Familiarity with cloud computing platforms.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Past experience supporting a retail/ecomm organization such as Nike, REI, Nordstrom, etc.
