Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Concrete Quality Control Technician to join our dynamic team in the field of airfield concrete paving. Depending on the experience you bring to the table, it could be a Concrete Quality Control Manager position. As a key member of our quality control team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity, durability, and compliance of concrete used in airfield construction projects. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of concrete materials and testing methodologies, coupled with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. Responsibilities will include

Material Testing:
- Conduct thorough testing of concrete materials, which may include aggregates, cement, and admixtures, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Perform slump tests, air content tests, and temperature checks to assess the consistency and workability of concrete mixes.
- Conduct observation of testing performed by laboratory personnel on site and communicate results and discrepancies in testing methods performed.
- Assist with providing logistical support to on-site laboratory which may include scheduling of testing and strength sample pick up.

Batch Plant Inspection:
- Assist with monitoring and inspection of concrete batching plants to verify the accuracy of mix proportions and adherence to approved mix designs.
- Assist with monitoring and inspection of aggregate delivery and stockpiling methods.
- Collaborate with concrete batch plant and paving staff to address and rectify any discrepancies in batching processes or issues with mixture consistency as delivered to the placement.
- Coordinate additional sampling and testing as needed to ensure compliance with specifications and mix design.

In-Field Inspection:
- Conduct on-site inspections before, during, and after concrete placement to assess and validate the quality of the material. Inspections include:
- Pre-Placement Inspection to ensure all aspects of the placement adhere to the plans and have met the requirements of the specifications.
- Inspection during placement to ensure proper methods produce a finish product that meets or exceeds the standards outlined in the specifications. Identify deficiencies and communicate to management and crew members.

Post-Placement Inspection:
- Evaluate placements for transverse and longitudinal smoothness, as well as edge slump and joint face deficiencies, using straight edge method and Profilograph.
- Assist with taking core samples for thickness and evaluation.
- Monitor curing processes and take samples for further testing as needed.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all testing activities, inspection results, and compliance documentation.
- Compile and maintain the required documents as required by the specification for prompt analysis by the Quality Control Manager and submittal as required.
- Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and provide recommendations for corrective actions when necessary.

Quality Assurance Compliance:
- Ensure that all concrete activities align with project specifications, industry codes, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to address quality-related concerns and implement corrective actions.
- Document and track deficiencies and corrective actions taken.
Communication:
- Effectively communicate with project stakeholders to convey quality control requirements and promote a culture of quality throughout the construction process.
- Participate in meetings to discuss quality performance, share insights, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

- ACI Field Certification or other relevant concrete-related certifications.
- 2+ years of Quality Control experience with concrete or civil construction projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word etc)
- Knowledge of ACI, FAA, and/or ASTM and how it applies to concrete.
- Comfortable working 40 - 60 hours per week.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- Bachelor's degree or higher education.
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I
- ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1
- ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Any other concrete testing certifications that follow AASHTO & ASTM standards through Department of Transportation or other entities.
