Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our Quality Engineering team. This role will be responsible for validating backend API functionality, supporting regression testing efforts, and contributing to automation initiatives across staging and production environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong API testing experience, automation expertise using Selenium and Java, and the ability to independently manage testing activities during offshore hours.

Key Responsibilities
Functional and Regression Testing
Validate sprint deliverables and user stories across Staging and Production environments.
Execute comprehensive regression testing to ensure application stability and quality.
Identify, document, track, and verify defects through resolution.
Collaborate closely with developers, business analysts, and product teams to ensure requirements are fully tested.
Test Planning and Design
Analyze Jira requirements, High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), and Figma UI/UX designs.
Develop detailed test cases, test scenarios, and test data to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Participate in sprint planning, grooming sessions, and requirement reviews to provide testing insights and risk assessments.
Test Automation
Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts using:
Selenium WebDriver
Java
Maven
TestNG
Support ongoing automation initiatives by identifying candidates for automation and improving framework effectiveness.
Execute automated test suites and analyze results to improve quality and coverage.
Ownership and Support
Take full ownership of testing activities during offshore working hours.
Ensure timely completion of testing tasks and clear communication of testing status, risks, and blockers.
Serve as backup testing support when other QA team members are unavailable.
Provide flexibility to support critical testing activities during occasional off-hours releases or deployments.
Communication and Collaboration
Communicate proactively with team members, leadership, and stakeholders regarding testing progress and issues.
Participate in defect triage meetings and provide clear root cause analysis when applicable.
Escalate risks and quality concerns early to ensure timely resolution.

Required Skills & Experience

4+ years of experience in Software Testing or Quality Engineering.
Strong experience testing RESTful APIs and backend services.
Hands-on automation experience using:
Selenium WebDriver
Java
Maven
TestNG
Experience creating test cases from business and technical requirements.
Proficiency with Jira and Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
Strong understanding of defect lifecycle management and regression testing practices.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience with API testing tools such as Postman, Swagger, or Rest Assured.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and test automation integration.
Experience validating data through SQL or database queries.
Experience working in distributed onshore/offshore environments.
Familiarity with cloud-based applications and modern software delivery practices.
