Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on large-scale civil infrastructure projects throughout the Hampton Roads region. This individual will be responsible for driving project execution from the field, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Projects may include roadway construction, utilities, site development, earthwork, drainage, bridges, concrete structures, and other heavy civil infrastructure work. The Superintendent will oversee crews, subcontractors, equipment, and daily operations while partnering closely with Project Managers and Engineers to deliver successful projects.
Lead daily field operations across heavy civil construction projects
Manage field crews, subcontractors, equipment, and material deliveries
Conduct safety meetings and ensure compliance with all company and OSHA safety standards
Review project plans, specifications, and schedules to maintain production goals
Monitor quality, productivity, budgets, and project milestones
Coordinate with Project Managers and Engineers to resolve field issues and maintain schedules
Communicate project status, risks, delays, and solutions to stakeholders
Oversee inspections and ensure all work meets project specifications and quality standards
Mentor and develop field staff while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
Proactively identify and resolve jobsite challenges to keep projects moving forward

Required Skills & Experience
7+ years of experience as a Superintendent, General Superintendent, or equivalent field leadership role within heavy civil construction
Experience managing DOT, municipal, and civil infrastructure projects
Experience overseeing projects valued at $10M+
Strong background in heavy equipment operations, utility installation, earthwork, grading, drainage, or site development
Proven experience managing subcontractors, self-perform crews, and day-to-day field operations
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and project schedules
Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices
Experience coordinating labor, equipment, and material resources to meet production goals
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Pump station construction experience
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
Water/wastewater infrastructure experience
Experience with construction management software and scheduling tools
Experience managing bridge or major transportation projects
