Job Description
About the Role
Our client is seeking a senior-level Linux Engineer to join their Infrastructure & Platform Engineering team and play a key role in modernizing enterprise Linux and container platforms. This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering position focused on automation, platform modernization, and large-scale infrastructure initiatives rather than day-to-day operational support.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment where they can design solutions, automate processes, and influence the future direction of critical platforms. This role offers the opportunity to work on enterprise-scale modernization efforts, including the evolution of the Ansible Automation Platform, future-state container platform strategy, and broader cloud-first initiatives. The pay rate for this is $60-66hr depending on years of experience.
What You'll Be Doing
This role is heavily focused on engineering and automation, with the majority of time spent driving modernization initiatives and designing scalable platform solutions. Operational support responsibilities are limited and typically arise only through escalations from the platform support team.
Key responsibilities include:
• Engineering and supporting enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
• Designing, building, and optimizing OpenShift/Kubernetes container platforms.
• Developing automation solutions using Ansible and the Red Hat Automation Platform.
• Modernizing existing infrastructure and operational processes through automation and self-service capabilities.
• Evaluating and helping shape the future container platform strategy as the organization assesses alternatives and enhancements to its current OpenShift ecosystem.
• Collaborating with development teams and infrastructure partners to troubleshoot complex platform-related issues.
• Leading infrastructure initiatives focused on scalability, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
• Driving cloud adoption efforts within a predominantly on-premises environment as the organization continues its transition toward a cloud-first model.
• Acting as an escalation point for advanced Linux, containerization, and platform engineering challenges.
Current Environment
The organization operates a large enterprise Linux footprint that supports a substantial OpenShift environment across multiple lifecycle stages, including:
• Lab
• Development
• UAT
• Production
While the company is embracing a cloud-first strategy, much of the infrastructure remains on-premises today. AWS is currently the primary cloud focus, although exposure to Azure is also valuable.
Key technologies include:
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
• OpenShift
• Kubernetes
• Ansible Automation Platform
• Red Hat Satellite
• AWS (preferred)
• Azure (nice to have)
