Job Description

The Fleet Maintenance Team Leader oversees second‑shift operations from 3pm–11pm, directing a team of technicians responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining City vehicles and equipment. This role assigns and coordinates work, performs complex repairs, ensures accurate and timely updates to work orders and service records, and communicates with departments and vendors on job status. The Team Leader supports training and development, provides performance input, and maintains quality and safety standards while keeping the fleet operating efficiently and reliably. The pay for this role is $30-36/hr and is dependent upon experience.

Required Skills & Experience

- Five years of fleet maintenance experience working on vehicles and equipment aligned to the assigned shop (light, heavy off‑road, or fire).
- Experience with preventative maintenance, computerized diagnostics, and complex electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic troubleshooting.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, and diagnostic instructions.
- Two years of team lead or supervisory experience in a maintenance or repair environment.
- Ownership of a complete mechanic tool set.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

- A CDL Class A License
- Virginia Motor Vehicle Inspector certification
- ASE certification(s)
- Proficiency with fleet maintenance software and digital work‑order systems.
- Strong communication skills with vendors, operators, and internal departments.
