Job Description
The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading design‑build project delivery, providing technical expertise across our client's services, and supporting business development and permitting efforts nationwide. The position blends hands‑on engineering, team leadership, and client‑facing responsibilities.
- Lead and grow the engineering team, helping build PE resumes and developing a strong internal bench
- Serve as the go‑to expert for HVAC and plumbing building systems, with a solid understanding of air quality, psychrometrics, pump systems, and fluid flow
- Take ownership of the Pipe TEST offering, providing consultative engineering support to clients, including on‑site evaluations and fee‑based assessments
- Support design‑build projects by developing schematic designs, contributing to HVAC conversions, and ensuring work meets code and quality standards
- Oversee and review work completed by external consultants, who will continue to be used regardless of project size
- Review permit and construction drawings and support project work that may not be strictly design‑focused
- Partner with preconstruction, operations, and marketing teams to support pursuits, client strategy, and business development
- Balance day‑to‑day reactive support with proactive efforts to grow services and improve engineering capabilities
- Split time between the office, job sites, and travel as needed (Once a month)

Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state; NCEES registration preferred
- Minimum 3 years post‑graduation experience focused on building systems design and engineering
- Proven design experience with mechanical and plumbing building systems
- Strong working knowledge of building codes and standards, including ICC and applicable energy codes
- Demonstrated leadership experience within design team environments
- Proficiency with industry‑standard drawing tools and load calculation/design software
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Ability to effectively manage internal teams and external consultants
- Degree of technical depth paired with strong communication and collaboration skills
